Rules to come into force after 180 days. The Department of Consumer Affairs has notified the Legal Metrology (Indian Standard Time) Rules, 2026 on 27 August 2026 . The Rules will come into force 180 days from the date of their publication in the Official Gazette . The Rules provide for Indian Standard Time (IST) as the common time reference across the country for legal, administrative, commercial and other official purposes. The 180-day period will allow Government departments, businesses, institutions and other organisations to make the required changes to their systems before the Rules come into force.   Prime Minister Conferred with “Oliy Darajali Do’stlik” Order, Uzbekistan’s highest honour for foreign leaders. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi was today conferred with the “Oliy Darajali Do’stlik” Order (Order of Highest Friendship) by the President of Uzbekistan, H.E. Shavkat Mirziyoyev for his contribution to the strengthening of friendship between the two countries. This is Uzbekistan’s highest honour for foreign leaders. Foreign minister appeals for freezers to help preserve bodies. The Nepali foreign minister has asked for foreign support to help provide freezers to preserve the bodies of flooding victims while they try to locate their loved ones. Earlier during a news conference Shisir Khanal says that "hundreds of bodies have been found downstream". "There is a risk of fast decomposition because these bodies have been in water for a long time," he says, adding that Nepal has "very limited" space to keep bodies in a frozen state for a long time. He says he is seeking active support from foreign governments to find ways to help preserve the bodies.

 Nepal Flash Floods: Death Toll Reaches 579 as Fresh Deluge Threatens Region. The death toll from flash floods in central Nepal rose to 547 on Friday (August 28, 2026), with more bodies recovered as search and rescue operations continue with caution due to fear of fresh floods following an increase in the water level in the Bhotekoshi River area.  The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) said rising water levels at the site of a devastating flash flood earlier this week increased the risk of another flood in the area. “The water level mixed with mud has increased at the same place where the flash flood occurred on Wednesday, and there is a risk of more flooding in the area,” the NDRRMA said. -PTI
