D evastating floods on the China-Nepal border have killed at least 1,050 people in Nepal, the disaster authority said on Tuesday (September 1, 2026), with nearly 4,000 more missing. Security forces are recovering more bodies from eight districts of the country, officials said. Around 4,000 people remain missing, while nearly 12,000 have been rescued, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) said. Nepal’s Prime Minister Balendra Shah on Tuesday said that the devastating flood that entered Rasuwa through the Bhotekoshi River bordering Tibet last week was due to climate change. “There is no doubt that climate change has caused this disaster, as it has been confirmed that the temperature in the Himalayan region has increased by 1.8 degrees,” he said in a post on social media. The presence of AK-203 rifles at a unit stationed in Secunderabad Cantonment, a peacetime location away from India’s forward border areas, raises a natural question, why would a relatively new assault rifle intended for infantry operations be held by such a unit? The AK-203 has come into focus after four such rifles were reported missing from an Army storage facility in the Bollarum area of Secunderabad Cantonment in Hyderabad. The weapons were among several service firearms and ammunition reported missing by the 20 Madras Regiment.

Rules to come into force after 180 days. The Department of Consumer Affairs has notified the Legal Metrology (Indian Standard Time) Rules, 2026 on 27 August 2026 . The Rules will come into force 180 days from the date of their publication in the Official Gazette . The Rules provide for Indian Standard Time (IST) as the common time reference across the country for legal, administrative, commercial and other official purposes. The 180-day period will allow Government departments, businesses, institutions and other organisations to make the required changes to their systems before the Rules come into force. Foreign minister appeals for freezers to help preserve bodies. The Nepali foreign minister has asked for foreign support to help provide freezers to preserve the bodies of flooding victims while they try to locate their loved ones. Earlier during a news conference Shisir Khanal says that "hundreds of bodies have been found downstream". "There is a risk of fast decomposition because these bodies have been in water for a long time," he says, adding that Nepal has "very limited" space to keep bodies in a frozen state for a long time. He says he is seeking active support from foreign governments to find ways to help preserve the bodies.

 Nepal Flash Floods: Death Toll Reaches 579 as Fresh Deluge Threatens Region. The death toll from flash floods in central Nepal rose to 547 on Friday (August 28, 2026), with more bodies recovered as search and rescue operations continue with caution due to fear of fresh floods following an increase in the water level in the Bhotekoshi River area.  The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) said rising water levels at the site of a devastating flash flood earlier this week increased the risk of another flood in the area. “The water level mixed with mud has increased at the same place where the flash flood occurred on Wednesday, and there is a risk of more flooding in the area,” the NDRRMA said. -PTI

Posted On: 27 AUG 2026 5:07PM by PIB Delhi   The Prime Minister Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) Scheme, launched on 1 June 2020 to provide collateral-free working capital loans to urban street vendors, has completed one year of its restructured phase. Approved by the Union Cabinet on 27 August 2025, the lending under the restructured Scheme has been extended up to 31 March 2030, with an enhanced focus on formal credit, digital financial inclusion, social security, capacity building and entrepreneurship. It aims to benefit 1.15 crore street vendors, including 50 lakh new beneficiaries. During the first year post-restructuring, 21.86 lakh loans have been disbursed to 10.56 lakh new beneficiaries, amounting to ₹6,294 crore.
